Editorial policy

How content is produced

Content on breakupnotes is AI-assisted and human-edited. Drafts are produced with the help of AI tools, then reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by our editorial team before publication. Bylines are editorial pseudonyms of that team; we never invent professional credentials.

Bylines and pen names

Tessa Mowbray is a pen name, and it belongs to this site’s editorial team rather than to a person you could look up. The name exists so that a page has somebody answerable for it. What it is allowed to claim is one ordinary experience — the end of a long relationship, which is common enough not to be a diagnosis — and nothing else. There are no credentials behind it: nobody here is a therapist, a counsellor or a coach, and no page is written as though it were treatment. No qualification, licence, job title, city, employer or date of any kind is asserted for it anywhere on this site.

The portrait on the about page is not a photograph of a living person. It is an illustration generated with an AI tool, it carries a visible AI-generated image label and a caption naming the byline as a pen name, and it is there to give a byline a face rather than to tell you whose.

Two things this byline never claims. It does not claim to know your relationship: no page here sets an interval for recovery, reads an ex’s motives from a message, or rules on whether an ending was right — and where the honest answer is a doctor or a therapist, the page says that and stops. And it does not speak for readers: letters arrive at the address below and they change pages, but nothing that arrives is printed back as a quotation, because a letter is not consent to be published.

Sourcing & statistics

Every statistic we publish is verified against a primary source (the original study, government data, or the company's own reporting) and named in the same sentence it appears. The full list lives on our sources page and sources page. Numbers we cannot trace to a primary source do not get published.

Corrections

Found an error? Email hello@breakupnotes.com. We correct factual errors within a week, note the correction on the affected page, and update the page's modified date honestly — it only changes when the content substantively changes.

Ownership & funding

breakupnotes is an independent publication. This site is funded by our own products and services promoted to our email list. We do not run paid rankings.
